The historical and ontemporary role played by South African universities in advancing or disabling non-racialism, non-sexism and equality. The relationship between tertiary educational institutions, the state, business and society, in entrenching historical class relations vs. leading and fostering social change and transformation.

Land Research

History and key statues used for land dispossession. A study of the efficacy of Land Reform programmes in South Africa Analysis and critique of the policies, ideologies, instruments and practice of the governing party on the question of land, and a scholarly review of its failures, flaws, success and future possibilities. An analysis of the effective unlocking of black farming and agriculture, which takes heed of the historical destruction of this sector, the current lack of adequate resourcing and support and the problems beset in the contemporary farming and architecture landscape with regards to inadequate levels of sustainable production and food security. 

Advocacy for Policy Change

We locate ourselves within the Constitutional promise. The choice of Championing Equality is rooted both in our history and in our constitutional promise. Championing Equality is revolutionary in the sense that equality by its very nature is aimed at redressing issues of injustice. The research unit has two strong academics and well-known researchers.

Poverty

An analysis of the historical and contemporary drivers of inequality and poverty in South Africa, with detailed scoping of current roadblocks and road mapping of solutions and pathways out of inequality and poverty A critique of the policies, ideologies & instruments of the governing party in tackling inequality and poverty. The powering & prioritizing of black women as an engine of and for poverty alleviation, in South Africa. The impact of poverty on South Africa’s youth, and the present day and future socio-economic implications Case studies and feasibility work on the success rate and sustainability of community driven vs. government reliant solutions. The impact of Early Childhood Development (ECD) on reducing patterns of poverty in communities, and the development of an optimal ECD formula and model.
